Court docus show Cruise-Holmes divorce case closed

NEW YORK (AP) ? The Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes divorce case is closed.

Court records filed in a New York City court indicate the case was closed Monday.

Holmes and Cruise said in July they had reached an agreement less than two weeks into their headline-dominating divorce case. Their lawyers and representatives wouldn't disclose details.

The couple were married in Italy in 2006. They have a 6-year-old daughter, Suri.

According to a communiqu? released by the Moroccan Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery, in commemoration of the 13th anniversary of King Mohammed VI?s enthronement, the monarch will chair the allegiance ceremony Tuesday at 4.00 p.m at the Mechouar square in the Rabat royal palace.

Whereas the allegiance ceremony is regarded by some Moroccans as a sign of their staunch loyalty to their king, other Moroccans reject this ritual, arguing that it is humiliating to the Moroccan dignity.

Moroccans are now curious to know about the reaction of the PJD ministers who once signed a document against the traditions of the allegiance ceremony and who are now supposed to attend the event and renew their loyalty to King Mohammed VI.

Saad Eddine Alotmani, Lahbib Chobani, Moustapha Ramid and Najib Bolif signed a document on March 31, 2011 demanding the abolition of ?all ceremonies, traditions and rituals that are perceived to be as humiliating and degrading to the human dignity.? The petition entitled ?The Change that We Want? was signed by some activists, politicians, journalists and former political detainees.

The annual ceremony of allegiance embodied in the ?Bayaa? (Allegiance ceremony) is a century-old tradition. During this ceremony Moroccan Ministers and other officials renew their allegiance to the king.

King Mohammed VI was enthroned on July 30, 1999, succeeding to his father the late King Hassan II who ruled the country from 1961 to 1999.

NEW YORK - Derek Jeter hit his 250th home run, Nick Swisher connected twice and the New York Yankees beat the Boston Red Sox 6-4 on a lightning-filled Friday night for their eighth win in 10 games.

Swisher, Curtis Granderson, Russell Martin and Jeter hit solo homers off Franklin Morales (3-4), and Swisher added another solo shot in the seventh against Clayton Mortensen. Jeter's homer gave the Yankees 10 players with 10 or more this season, tying the club record set in 1998.

Phil Hughes (12-10) survived his own throwing error that led to four unearned runs during a rainy third inning. Down 3-0, the Red Sox went ahead on Dustin Pedroia's three-run homer, the 28th long ball off Hughes this year.

New York, which has led the AL East since mid-June, improved to 7-3 against the Red Sox this season. Boston has not won consecutive games since Aug. 5-6.

Hughes had a curious outing, retiring 19 of 21 batters not counting the third inning. In all, he allowed four hits, struck out four and walked one.

David Robertson pitched the eighth, when Granderson ran down Pedroia's one-on drive just in front of the wall in left-center, the deepest part of the ballpark. Rafael Soriano finished for his 30th save in 32 chances, completing a five-hitter. The only previous time he reached the 30-save mark was when he had 45 for Tampa Bay in 2010.

Morales gave up five runs and six hits in 5 1-3 innings. He also allowed four home runs against the Yankees on July 7.

Swisher homered in the first, Granderson went deep with one out in the second and Martin connected two pitches later. With a 2-0 count on Jayson Nix, a bolt of lightning was seen beyond center field and the grounds crew came out to work on the mound as rain fell.

Play turned as sloppy as the field in the third. Mike Aviles singled and Hughes threw away Scott Podsednik's comebacker for an error that left runners at the corners. Pedro Ciriaco hit an RBI grounder, Jacoby Ellsbury walked and, with two outs, Pedroia hit a no-doubt drive to left.

Jeter's homer tied it in the fifth, and the Yankees went ahead in the sixth. One-out singles by Casey McGehee and Granderson chased Morales, and Nix's two-out single off Mortensen put New York ahead 5-4.

Notes: Red Sox LHP Felix Doubront, out since Aug. 9 because of a right knee issue, threw off a mound in a session of about 45 pitches. He is to have another mound session and might pitch in a game next week. ... Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said David Ortiz, on the DL since July 18 because of a strained right Achillies tendon, won't play this weekend. ... Swisher also homered twice April 28 vs. Detroit. Credit Counseling

One of the options is credit counseling. This is where you will meet with a certified financial counselor. What they will do is review your financial picture, evaluate it, and then provide counseling for you to learn how you can work at getting out of trouble.

This counselor will conduct an analysis of your financial budget and situation, including all of your current income and expenditures. By doing this the counselor can then determine the root of the problem, as well as possible options on how this debt can be repaid. These options could include creating a budget, debt management plan, or even bankruptcy, depending on the severity of your crisis.

Along with helping you find a workable payment plan, a reputable credit counselor will also offer advice and education on how you can best manage all your finances to avoid this from happening again in the future.
Quite often you can find an agency that will offer the counseling at no cost. They make their money on entering into one of their plans, so keep that in mind when choosing your option.

Debt Management Plan

If you have the option to enter into a debt management program, it would be because you have gone through debt counseling first. In other words, if the credit counselor has to determine that this is an option for you. Everyone will not automatically qualify. However, these programs, such as voluntary IVA? in the UK, are a popular choice.

In a debt management plan, the agency will go to work for you in securing a deal with your creditors that will lower your payments, decrease your interest rate, or both. Their motive is to give you a more reasonable monthly payment that will cover all the accounts you include in the program. In other words, if you have 3 credit cards, they can negotiate lower balances and interest rates on all 3, and you pay them one monthly payment, that they apply to your negotiated accounts for you.

I have known people who have gone through this program with great success? and others who have not. It?s best to do your research on companies and look for testimonials and complaints before deciding to enter an agreement with one.

Debt Consolidation

This is where you take out one big loan, so you can pay off other loans and debt that you are facing. It is intriguing to people for the main reason that it consolidates your payments into one?meaning one payment per month, compared to several.

It often comes with a lower interest rate as well as payment than when paying out separate payments. The downside is that it will take longer to pay it off, and even though the payment is less, the overall amount you pay will be more.

Debt Settlement

As in the debt management plan, your debt will be negotiated by the agency, reducing the balance of what you owe. The difference is you will be expected to pay a lump sum of what is negotiated. Here are just a few pitfalls to this option:

If you had excess money laying around (that will be necessary in a lump sum), you might not need debt relief at all

You must first let your payments ?go?, ruining your credit further, in order to have leverage in the negotiating

Debt collection calls will soon start, even though it must stop once they are notified by the agency

Now, the agency has the ability to set up a 3rd party trust for your money to accumulate. You will make payments to the agency, rather than the creditor, which can add up to a lump sum while your accounts with the creditors go unpaid. It?s only when you have a decent balance in that account that the negotiations will start.

Keep in mind; they need to get paid as well. So, part of that payment you are making to build your balance will go to the settlement company.

In Closing

Each option will have its share of perks and drawbacks, and will depend on your overall financial situation. Make sure you research any agency you are thinking of working with, as well as heed their advice on becoming financially secure again for the future.

Thus, I think it is important for us to write the speech before we go to the podium. So, how to write a good speech? The thing on how to write a speechthat you need to remember is that you need to focus on the grammar, diction, and organization of words, sentences, and also paragraph. First of all, let us talk about the grammar. As an English speaking person, I know that you have mastered your English grammar. However, even though a native speaker of English can face some slips in the grammar. Thus, when writing a speech, you might need to have someone who will help you to check the grammar. Next, the diction will deal the choice of words. Last, the organization is how you put every word, every sentence, and every paragraph related and chained together.??

Standard Chartered works on joint deal with agencies

LONDON (Reuters) - Standard Chartered is pursuing a collective settlement with other U.S. authorities after speedily agreeing to pay $340 million to New York's financial regulator, who broke ranks with early revelations that the bank hid banned Iranian transactions.

Chief Executive Peter Sands, who cut short his holiday in Canada last week to deal with the affair, remains in the United States as the bank continues talks with other agencies to agree a comprehensive deal that removes lingering uncertainty.

"Negotiations are going on between the other agencies, and we are talking to them. It is safe to assume there will now be a collective agreement," the spokesman said, declining to put a timeframe on the process.

Shares in Standard Chartered were up 4.2 percent at 1,427 pence at 0945 GMT, still 9 percent below their value prior to accusations being made against the bank on August 6 by New York's Financial Services Superintendent Benjamin Lawsky.

Lawsky said Standard Chartered had hidden Iran-linked transactions with a total value of $250 billion and called it a "rogue institution" for breaking U.S. sanctions.

That prompted a robust defense from Sands against what he called Lawsky's "disproportionate" allegations, but the bank's shares lost over 30 percent of their value in 24 hours, ramping up the pressure on Standard Chartered to strike a deal.

"I think Standard Chartered wanted to settle because the share price had become destabilized," said one of the bank's 30 biggest investors. "Prior to that, I think they believed they had good legal grounds to resist a settlement of say under $200 million on the basis of the history of these cases."

The affair also took on a political dimension, with some British members of parliament suggesting it was part of a U.S. effort to undermine London as a financial centre.

Lawsky drew criticism from other regulators for jumping ahead of a two-year probe into the bank by the U.S. Treasury, the Federal Reserve, the Justice Department and New York prosecutors.

Britain's finance minister George Osborne made a series of phone calls to his U.S. counterpart last week expressing concern at the way details of the case came out.

Sands flew to New York on Sunday to take personal control of the negotiations ahead of a planned hearing with New York on Wednesday which has now been adjourned pending formal completion of the settlement.

Monday's settlement offered some relief to shareholders, but investors were quick to point out that Standard Chartered still had some way to go before closing the most regrettable chapter in its history.

"Don't forget about the other half of the fine - they haven't settled with the DoJ/OFAC yet," another of the bank's biggest 30 investors told Reuters, estimating a second financial hit of around the same size.

Shareholders remain broadly supportive of Sands.

"I don't think Peter Sands's reputation has been damaged much by the affair. The fact that his robust defense doesn't quite gel with the size of the fine would be the only real concern," said one of the bank's biggest 40 shareholders.

SEATTLE (AP) ? Seattle's Felix Hernandez has long talked of his desire to achieve pitching perfection. He finally accomplished it Wednesday against the Tampa Rays Rays.

It was the third perfect game in baseball this season ? a first ? joining gems by Chicago's Philip Humber in April and San Francisco's Matt Cain in June.

"I don't have any words to explain this," Hernandez said afterward, speaking on the field to the crowd. "I've been working so hard to throw one and today is for you guys."

Remember what the experience of shopping for a gadget was like at big-box stores years ago? Whatever your actual needs were, the store clerks would invariably steer you towards whatever they were getting a commission to sell, or whatever scratched their personal itch. Why would you even go to a store if you knew you would never get an honest answer? The problem was bad enough for Apple in the 1990s, when Macs were often relegated to a dark corner alongside the Ethernet cables, that the company started up its own retail chain. It didn't get better for most of us until outlets like Best Buy backed off and sometimes made it a point to advertise commission-free staff. Today, while it's tough to completely escape personal bias and the occasional exception to the rule, it's more likely than not that a modern general electronics store will give you a decent shot at buying what you really want.

But just try buying a cellphone at a carrier store today.
